Educators
Natural disasters don’t just damage buildings, they disrupt lives, destabilize families, and leave lasting marks on the people and programs at the heart of our communities. Recovery is hard. It’s slow. And for early education providers, the pressure to show up for children and families, especially while navigating your own losses, can feel overwhelming.
We understand the weight of what you’ve carried.
That’s why we’re proud to share a new opportunity designed to support your recovery and strengthen your program for the road ahead. Through a federal grant administered by the Florida Division of Early Learning and distributed through Early Learning Coalitions in affected areas, Hurricane Ian Impact Disaster funds are now here in Sarasota County. A portion of these funds will be distributed in the form of mini grants to eligible licensed Sarasota County child care providers.
Note: Sarasota County School District programs are not eligible due to funding source requirements.
Three mini-grants are available to all eligible providers on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funding is available:
To purchase materials and resources that enhance quality in the classroom and directly support children in your program.
To purchase equipment, software and supplies to enhance business practices, emergency readiness and safety protocols.
Examples include:
Funds may not be used for rent, mortgage, utilities, business insurance, or major building or facility renovations, modifications, or additions.
Minor building or facility adjustments are allowed, but if a permit is required and it is not obtained, the cost will not be allowed.
Yes, but if your program has a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), then use it. If your program does not have a FEIN, use your SSN. Most child care programs have a FEIN, but some Family Child Care Homes may not and, therefore, must use SSN.
